Scripture Union Daily Guide 11th April 2025 Outline:

At this most critical moment in the life of the Master and His disciples, we see an interplay of two forces: the spirit and the flesh (Matthew 26:31-35,40,41,43). Take note of the Master’s verdict in Matthew 26:41: “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” The battle between the spirit and the flesh has continued till date. Paul, writing to the Galatian Church said: “the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish”.

See also this tension and hopelessness in Romans 7:5-24. However, when one is in Christ, the flesh must be mortified, put to death (Colossians 3:5), brought under control through discipline (1 Corinthians 9:27), crucified (Galatians 5:24) and starved of gratification (Galatians 5:16). Take note of Jesus’ resignation to the Father’s will even at the crucial painful moment in His life (Matthew 26:39,42). We have been therefore called, not only to believe in Him but to also suffer for His sake, willingly (Philippians 1:29).

And So:
Let not sin reign as king in your mortal body, But submit ev’ry bit into Jesus’ hands. By blood bought, let each thought in subjection bow. Own Him Lord- deed and word shall His glory show.

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
Oh Lord, help me to keep my willing spirit active to always overcome the weak flesh.
